The facts

  • A typical home uses 270,000 litres of water in one year. About 35% of this water goes on keeping your garden alive. This equates to 94,500 litres per year.
  • Australia is the driest populated continent on earth.
  • In the future new dams will have to be situated in more environmentally sensitive areas, this will be at the cost of tax payers, and may result in the destruction of wilderness areas and natural aquatic ecosystems.
  • The average garden hose delivers 1000 litres of water an hour.
  • Much of Australia is permanently in drought, so water Restrictions are here to stay.

www.savewater.com.au is a great website, with more suggestions on how to save water and an Australia wide data base of suitable plant species for any garden, including low maintenance and drought resistant species to dress up any garden.

The good news is……

  • Dry gardens do not have to be dull, quite the opposite, some drought tolerant plants provide some of the most striking features in any garden.
  • Plants have developed to survive in some of the most hostile environments on earth. The ability to use structure to capture the conditions that occur naturally in our surrounds is often overlooked.
  • Landscaping specifically designed for your home will be the most important investment to alleviate ongoing water costs and energy costs driven by heating and cooling. Not to mention the air quality you surround yourself with.
  • Sustainable Landscapings can design and create waterwise, sustainable gardens that dont compromise the aesthetics of the garden but enhance the alfresco style.
