As we stride into 2008, the wave of environmental awareness continues to
gather pace, but where adults are often wary of change, our youth embrace
it.
It was uplifting to recieve a call a few days ago from a young man seeking information about apprenticeships. He wanted not only to be a tradeperson, but a tradeperson specialising in sustainablity. He'd done his research and had decided it was the future.
We think it's the future too (and have for a long time!) and that's why we're expanding again. This month we welcome Group General Manager, Michael Toohey to the company. There's more about Michael below, but i'd like to say now, we're excited about the passion and skills he brings to the company in this newly created position.
Not so exciting is the prospect of Level 5 water restrictions in Brisbane, but read our piece on Sustainable Water Solutions for more information on what you and we can do about that.
At its simplest, i think sustainability is about survival. Over the millennium, survival has not always been about the fittest, it's been about those who are able to adapt. And for all the politicians who are stuck in the headlights, there are people out there giving chance a go, building and renovating their houses using superior insulation, natural ventilation, lighting and water systems, so their comfort isn't handcuffed in eternity to power and water utlities.
Who would have thought it would be the kids bugging the grownups to turn off the light!?
Have a great Autumn,
Brett Mckenzie
