bringing the built environment to life

Retrofit services for renovations and outdoor spaces

Do you own an existing house that you want to renovate or 'retrofit' to be more sustainable?

Small interventions can go a long way, for example changing your old energy guzzling downlights and replacing them with compact flourescent and LED technology. Changing your showerheads to AAA rated water saving devices, adding screens to minimise the solar impact on your house or installing water tanks are just some suggestions.

Using intelligent design concepts the Sustainable team are able to unite an original house with external landscaping, creating openness and flow of light, air and space. The patio for the Coles Project pictured here featured battens partly constructed of a low maintenance material made of recycled milk bottles. It provides a stunning gathering area, while allowing breezes from the pool to act as a passive cooling device for the house.

The retrofit included everything from pool renovation, installation of water tanks and drip feed irrigation, through to privacy screening. The result: a house and external space linked into a harmonious whole.

"It looks great, we are making a difference to the environment, and the workmanship is excellent," said Dr John Cole.

Managing Director of Sustainable Pty Ltd, Brett McKenzie, agrees. "This project demonstrates how the use of sustainable principles to retrofit a house can bring a building to life."
