Karana Downs - retrofit and landscape project

The clients' brief was to transform and extend the existing structure to achieve the most energy-efficient solution possible, maximise the connectivity from inside to the outdoor living, and meet the modern lifestyle requirements of the clients' family all whilst maintaining the original feel of the home.

The clients required additional space to gather and multifunctional spaces to enjoy the garden, relax and entertain to accommodate for their growing family visits.

The sustainable retrofit included retrofitting of the kitchen and connectivity to the outdoor living spaces - entertainment and edible landscape, an underground water storage system (Atlantis tank) combined with the new swimming pool, building of two atriums to allow natural light and ventilation through the house. We also replaced the tile roof with a colourbond roof and new insulation.

This home is a perfect example of how high level sustainability practices can be incorporated into existing structures without sacrificing the fundamental character of the property, and without sacrificing the style of contemporary living Queenslanders enjoy today.
