Energy Efficiency
Photovoltaic Panels
10 Photovoltaic (or solar) panels on the roof collect and transport surplus energy during the day onto the Energex energy grid. Energy is then used from the grid to power the home at night and on cloudy days. It also supplies the energy needed to run household appliances during the day. 10 panels are enough to power all living room and kitchen appliances, depending on whether gas is used for cooking.
Excess power is sold to the energy grid, working on a debit and credit system which means low energy usage can actually attract a credit from the power company .
Why is Energy Efficiency so important? Well, did you know that:
• Global energy use has risen almost 70 percent since 1971
• Developing nations represent more than 80 percent of world population, but only consume approximately one third of the world's energy.
• Between 1986 and 1996, Australia total energy production increased by more than 40%
•The largest single source of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions is the production and consumption of energy.
• Renewable energy production in Australia has been estimated at just over 2% of total energy production since 1995-96.
Furthermore, have a look at the image below to see how electricity is concentrated across our world.
When you look at it, remember the above facts and consider the situation our world will be in if we continue to encourage all the 2nd and 3rd world countries to 'follow our progressive (but irresponsible) footsteps!'
