Water Saving Features
Under the floor of the house's lower pavillion are five rainwater tanks which can hold up to 25,000 litres of water. This means that the Brookwater home does not have to rely on water supplies from the local Council, saving money on rates and allowing the house to utilise resources provided by the natural environment.
Next to the rainwater tanks is a wastewater management system. This system can sterilise the grey and black water from the house and recycle it into the toilet systems.
The system is still awaiting approval from Ipswich City Council. The house is presently still connected to the Council's sewerage and water. We are hoping this system will be approved shortly so it can be used in houses across Australia.
Why is this system so important to us? When you consider that toilets can use up to 50% of a home's water requirements , you realise the degree of cost-saving systems like this can create, both financially and environmentally.
Also installed into the house are Eco shower roses, which are special shower nozzles that use 78% less water than regular showers . While water use is reduced, shower enjoyment is not. The shower rose envelopes air bubbles with water, making the shower pressure feel just as strong and relaxing as a normal shower, whilst cutting out unnecessary water usage.
