The Brinsmead Residence was designed to take advantage of the existing contours of the site. The site slopes steeply into a gully, the house is designed to sit above the natural ground line, and allow the natural flow of water to continue under the house and into the waterway.
The house is constructed out of lightweight materials and is unobtrusive from the road, it is designed to sit within existing trees on the site and take the maximum advantage of the sites views and orientation.
The house contains, photovoltaic panels on the roof and is grid interactive, water is heated by a solar hot water system, water tanks harvest rainwater, which is reticulated thru the house to be used as irrigation and for the ponds. Water ponds are used around the house, to provide passive cooling and intimate reflection points.
